Want or need to get those bodies back to their normal shape, after binging out over the festive season? Well here's a good opportunity to get the wheels in motion, by dancing some of that excess off at: Sussex Soul Club, Portsmouth Soul Club, Soul Galore, Soul Kitchen, Loose Caboose, Northern Soul night (Across the Street).
January 7th Sussex Soul Club Clapham & Patching Village Hall, Long Furlong, BN13 3UT, West Sussex, decks start spinning @ 7:30 to 12:30. Host DJ's are: Julie Lambert, Darren Lambert with their trusted friends and helpers: Mark and Alison Etherington. Adding “A taste of honey” guest DJ: Steve Guarnori, well! this will do for starters don't you agree? Oh! It'll cost you £6 to pass through the main door.
SSC: 2017 dates are: March 4th, July 1st and November 4th (5th Anniversary).
January 14th Portsmouth Soul Club, 174 Milton Rd, PO4 8PR, 8pm to 12.30.
Mike writes “Our first night at our new home not chic, not modern, but very atmospheric, this will take you back to your early days of clubbing”. Guest DJ is non other than Paddy Shevlin Esq himself. More importantly it's £5 to enter. “Nowhere to run nowhere to hide” me'thinks.
January 15th Soul Galore, The Grand Burstin Hotel, Britannia Hotel's, The Harbour Marine Parade, CT20 1TX, Folkestone, Kent, 11.30am to 10.00pm. Les Csonge and Ann Taylor hosting this event, so please look on their Facebook group to get more information about this free 8 hour Northern/Modern Soul all-dayer and the DJ rosta. It sounds like “there's gonna be a showdown”.
January 20th Soul Kitchen, Tunbridge Well's @ the Grey Lady, 70-72 the Pantiles, TN2 5TN, you need to get there for 7pm to 1am, only £5 to get in. The duo-dynamic John and Tracey start off 2017 with guest DJ's: David Smyth and Steve 'Mr Fish” Clancy playing rare, 60's 70's based Soul music, with “Heart and Soul”
January 21st Loose Caboose @ The Con Club, 139 High Street, Lewes BN7 1XS, Rachelle Piper and Martin Jackson inform us: “L C, is back (almost) MONTHLY on every LAST Saturday! January's session is kicked off by Wayne Napier-Gibbins spinning his selection of tunes. Expect the usual belters from residents Martin, and Rachelle. You should know what to expect by now, but if not, just pop along and you'll soon find out”. Don't forget it's £5 on the door Caboosing start's @ 7:30 pm to midnight, wow! “Tutti Frutti au rutti, a-bop-bop-a-loom-op a-lop-bop-boom!

January 28th Northern Soul Night @ the Vittle & Swig, (Formerly the Camden Quarter), Tunbridge Wells, TN1 2PT, start's 7:30pm to midnight. Reg's: Andy Crane, Jimmy Kent and Simon Penfold host. Guest DJ for the night is Keith “Mr Soul” Wooooon, that name ring's a bell! “Half a pound of tuppenny rice half a pound of treacle, that's the way the money goes, pop goes the weasel” at the Vittle & Swig.
Well that's it dear readers, for this first month of the year, aren't we lucky to have all these event's in and around the Southeast with great venues, top notch DJ's and a smorgasbord of Black music.
Ah! that's all well and good, the one final thing worth mentioning is that without you good people there would be none of the above, think about it and remember: “Seven day's with out Soul music makes one weak”.
